Frederick A. Laux, Q.C., Counsel
Frederick A. Laux, Q.C., BA, LL.B (Alberta), LL.M (Harvard) is a professor emeritus in law at the University of Alberta. In February 2003, he became counsel to Shores Jardine. As a professor of law, Fred concentrated on administrative law, municipal government law and land use regulation. His text, Planning Law and Practice in Alberta,is the leading authority in the area.
Fred has actively practiced law throughout his academic career and has earned a stellar reputation as a practical and effective litigator. He has appeared before the Alberta Courts of Appeal and Queen's Bench in many important planning and administrative law cases. His practice has also involved a wide variety of planning and administrative tribunals.
Fred has served as a legal consultant to all levels of government and to firms and individuals in the private sector. He has served on several government commissions and task forces including the Government of Alberta Review of Provincial Court (Criminal Division); City of Edmonton Tribunal to review Executive Committee systems; Member Mayor's task force "Open For Business" and is the principal negotiator and draftsperson of the Federal/Provincial Agreement concerning the incorporation of the town of Banff.
